City Government Information

Incorporated in 1959, Half Moon Bay is governed by a five-member elected City Council. In the 2005-2006, the estimated budget was approximately $28 million. City staff is divided into six departments: Administration, Police, Finance, Planning, Public Works/Building and Parks and Recreation. The City Manager is responsible for the oversight of daily operations.

The City of Half Moon Bay Planning Department guides development through land use recommendations to the Planning Commission and the City Council. Planning staff responds to the day-to-day requests for information about zoning matters and land use, and processes planning permit applications. Front counter hours are 8:30am to 1pm, Monday through Friday. Appointments may be made for planning inquiries after these hours. Planning Director: Jack Liebster

The Half Moon Bay Library is part of the San Mateo County Library System. A drive is underway to raise funds for a new library building to replace the 30-year-old one.
Coastside Committee For a New Library / Friends of the Library meets from 6-7pm on the fourth Monday of each month at the Billiard Room of the Canada Cove Clubhouse.
